FLOODING & LOSS OF LIFE ~ & HAND PAINTING ARTWORK ON KAREN'S FRONT DOOR

FLOODING & LOSS OF LIFE ~ & HAND PAINTING ARTWORK ON KAREN'S FRONT DOOR

The grass is finally dry enough that I was able to mow my yard this afternoon.  It's so pretty and green after all of the rain.
There was so much rain in the hill country and Wimberley that there was horrible record breaking flooding and flash flooding of the rivers.  Five hundred year old trees were knocked down by the force of the water.  In the night, Blanco river in a very few minutes widened and flash flooded and washed homes off of their foundations and down the river.  Families were lost.  Very, very sad.
They're on my mind all of the time.
~
I was so thankful for the many inches of rain.  My only problem was that the water was coming down the hill so fast that it washed dirt into my fish pond twice.  I had to empty and refill it both times.  I've figured out the path the water takes, coming down the hill and I'm going to change that direction.  Tonight and tomorrow it's supposed to rain, again.  It's ok with me.  I've been loving all of these cloudy days and rain.  I have not forgotten the years of drought and how hot it gets in the summer.
~
A few days ago, I saw a giant swallowtail butterfly fluttering around my key lime tree.  Today, when I was mowing, I noticed several teeny tiny caterpillars on the leaves.  I'm hoping the wasps don't get them.  I try to discourage wasp nests for that reason.  They take my caterpillars.

Several years ago, I painted artwork on Karen's antique double front doors.
Here is a link to that post and more pictures:
We both love birds.
Then, she moved.
She tried and tried to figure out how to fit the antique doors into her new front door frame, but her carpenter said it was impossible without ruining the doors.
So, she has asked me to paint her new door.
She and I chose this shade of blue.  I painted the door and am in the process of painting the artwork.  I still have to do a little more ivy and a bird and a nest somewhere.  I think I'll make a spot for the nest on the top left.  I'll show it to you when I'm finished.  Also, I'm painting her garage door to look like carriage house doors.   I think I'll need to be there two more days and then I'll share the pictures with you.  I suggested that she plant lots of blue plumbago.
~
Today, I'm very thankful for the rain and for all of the blessings in my life.
My thoughts are with the people who's lives have been devastated.

MY DIRTY LITTLE DOG

MY DIRTY LITTLE DOG

This is my dirty little dog.
We live on a hill and with all of the rain, Charlie constantly has his nose to the ground, exploring all of the interesting smells that flow through our yard.
Tomorrow, he will get a bath.

MY FRIEND~MR. CARDINAL

MY FRIEND~MR. CARDINAL

Here's my friend, Mr. Cardinal.
I've shown you pictures of him asking for sunflower seeds.  If he sees me in the yard, he will fly over to the tree by the garden shed and start click.click.clicking for my attention.  So, I get some seeds just for him.  Of course, they eat all day, but I've read that they feed in the very early morning and just before dark.  I always go out just before dark and put seeds in his feeder.  He and his mate are always waiting and he flies really close to me, just in case I forget why I've come outside carrying sunflower seeds.
Last night when I stepped out the door, he flew and landed about 20" from my face.
Oh, he is really beautiful up close.
  I'm glad he trusts me.

THE OWLS ARE BACK & THINGS, THEY ARE A'CHANGING & TEXAS COWBOYS ROUNDING UP THEIR HORSES IN FLOOD WATERS

THE OWLS ARE BACK & THINGS, THEY ARE A'CHANGING & TEXAS COWBOYS ROUNDING UP THEIR HORSES IN FLOOD WATERS

The owls are back.
They were hoo hooing back and forth early this morning when I woke up.  I love hearing them.  They've been away for 6 weeks or so, and I think it's because doves and grackles were nesting in their favorite trees.  That was very respectful of them.
My birthday is later this month.  I believe when you're approaching a birthday you start evolving and changing in some way.  I  surely can see that right now.  I keep feeling that I want white walls and I want to take everything off of flat surfaces so I can have a clean and less cluttered environment.  My kitchen cabinets have about a 13" space above them.  I have beautiful dishes and other things that look really nice and I still love the look.  But, I am about to decide that I want to take all of that wonderful Fitz & Floyd and other dishes down.  I want to put a 13" wood front with crown molding and paint it white/off white like the rest of my cabinets.  I'm about to decide to clean all of that stuff and just put it away in a cabinet in case I want to see it again, someday.  As soon as I'm finished with the work that is lined up right now, I'm pretty sure I'm doing the cabinet thing.  I still love my yellow walls, so not quite ready to change that.
Have you felt this before?  Like you need, need, need a change!
Areas in Texas have flooding conditions from all of the abundant rains.  Tonight on the news I saw a father and sons rounding up 31 of their horses that were being swept away.  It was so interesing to watch and they saved everyone of their horses.
Here's the video of the Texas cowboys, big and small, rounding up their horses.
Love those Texas cowboys!! big and small!

Cross B Rodeo Company and Boys Ranch started Mother's Day, May 10th, 2015 searching for 31 missing ponies and horses after a flash flood in Eastland Texas. Bailey (14), Jade (12), and Trace Barrett (8), helped their dad (Will Barrett) by riding hours through the flooded ranch searching for the ponies and horses. Eventually, they gathered, roped and rescued all 31 head from the raging flood waters. The horses and ponies were herded back across the strong flowing flooded river and then herded across the flooded ranch and into a set of livestock pens on high ground. By the time the cowboys had located and gathered all of them some of the smaller ponies had been washed down River over the tops of the flooded fences. Thankfully, with the use of their saddle horses, ropes and even their mom (Pepper Barrett) and their 6 year old little sister Pixie, all horses and ponies were successfully rescued."

DO HORSES REMEMBER OLD FRIENDS..WATCH THIS REUNION 4 YEARS LATER

Over 4 Years Later, This Horse Is Reunited With An Old Friend – Watch What Happens

Do horses remember old friends? Do they have emotions? We’re about to find out:
“On the 14 December 2012 I repurchased Arthur, a horse that I bred but had to sell four and a half years ago. During this period two of Arthur’s playmates from “foalhood”, William who had been with Arthur since they were foals and Harry who arrived as a foal a year later have stayed with me. We have had a few moves, and Harry and William have shared their lives with many other horses and ponies since spring 2009. Mustons Field the place in Dorset where I used to live and all my horses and ponies grew up in has long been sold, and this reunion happened far away in East Sussex in a field William and Harry had only lived in for two weeks, whilst I was studying in this area, so there was nothing familiar. Would Arthur now aged eight and a half, a thoroughbred sports horse that has spent the last four and a half years in a high class private competition yard BE eventing have any memory at all of the two hairy New Forest pony playmates he once shared his youth with? And likewise would William and Harry recognise that little thoroughbred guy who was once their best mate?”

THANK YOU FOR THE ABUNDANT SHOWERS & THUNDERSTORMS

THANK YOU FOR THE ABUNDANT SHOWERS & THUNDERSTORMS

So far this year, we are enjoying the most wonderful rains.  With 15" since the first of the year, the weatherman says we are no longer in a drought situation.  Everything is so clean and green.
One of my crepe myrtles is full of leaves.  During the past two summers there were so few leaves on it I thought it was dying.  I put lots of green sand and Medina Growin Green organic granular fertilizer on it, hoping to bring it back.
I think nature took care of that with the abundant showers and thunderstorms.
Thank you, thank you for the rain!!
