Look at this beautiful green and beige moth. Those are my favorite shades of green.
I was gettng leaves out of my fish pond and this moth was in the leaves and ended up in my net.
Look at his caterpillar body.

Queens Crown is one of my very favorite vines. I've had this one for about 20 years and each spring it blooms as soon as it comes up until it freezes in late fall. Many of them don't bloom until fall. This one climbs into my trees, the neighbor trees and up the telephone pole and wires. I love vines, so this one makes me really happy. I, even, love the word VINE. And, the color of the flowers is so pretty.
You can't see them in these photos, but there are honey bees swarming all around the flowers. I'm always happy to see that.

Beautiful moth; I've only seen a few with this coloring.
ReplyDeleteRe the Queens Crown Vine; is it also known as Coral Vine? My Mom used to grow a vine that looks exactly like the one you picture but called it Coral Vine - she grew pink also. I have a white vine (2 seasons old) that I dearly love; it too is finding its way up the post and up into the trees.

Yes, the moth was so unusual and I just had to take a photo of it. Yes, this vine is a coral vine. I'm sure they also call it queen's crown because the tiny flowers look like a crown. Wonder who named it that?

ReplyDeleteI agree totally, about the plants for honey bees. On this vine, they're so high up in the air, that I don't think neighbors will see and want to spray and kill them. I'm always watching out and concerned about that.

DeleteThe moth is a pretty shade of green, were you able to identify it? I've not heard of a Queen's Crown vine before but it sounds interesting.
ReplyDeleteI googled "green moth" and a couple of them were similar, but no names. We call it queens crown, but it is coral vine and antigonon. Such a beautiful vine with heart shaped leaves and beautiful flowers. It, also, comes with white flowers.
