This is the first year in many years that I haven't seen baltimore orioles in my yard. I've seen several other migrating birds, but I'm really disappointed that I didn't get to see a flock of these amazingly beautiful birds this year.
I do believe it has something to do with the weather. In the past, I've always seen the orioles between mid August and mid September. They always seem to come in with the cold fronts and we finally had one, but it was really late for a first cold front.
This photo is from last year. A whole flock of orioles stayed in my yard, coming and going, for a whole day and I was here all day watching them. Because of the weather, maybe it's not too late and I do keep looking for them. Oh well, for sure next year!!

I've never had Baltimore Orioles. Maybe since we moved back to Texas they will appear. Maybe it's not too late??
ReplyDeleteWater is the best thing to attract them after a long flight. I do hope it's not too late this year and hoping you get to see them. It takes your breath away, when you first see the male baltimore oriole in your yard.
DeleteSuch beautiful colorings - I wonder where they've been this year?
ReplyDeleteWe don't have Orioles in New Zealand.
Our native 'Silvereye' is a sweet little bird that visits my garden this time of year and I could sit all day watching them play in the birdbath too Lynda.
They have pretty silver and green feathers and a white/sil ver circle around the eye!
Thank you for visiting me!
Hugs
Shane
I think the orioles might have come when I was at work. If so, I'm very disappointed that I missed them. I believe they move on down south for the winter. I googled your silver eye and it is a beautiful little bird. There's a dark green tiny bird with a ring around it's eye that spends most of the winter here and I love watching them. They're very friendly.
